Hi, could anyone tell me if waders are needed to fish this area, mainly looking at manxman rock and the mainland towards Ross island? Is Ross island accessible at low water? Looking to fish up there in a couple of weeks time. Any help would be great. :)

I have been a few times mate and never bothered with waders, just strong boots because there is a fair bit of walking and rock hopping to do to get on the Manxman or Borness. I don't think you can get onto Ross Island at low water, but I could be wrong. Hope it goes well.

A good sturdy pair of boots is all you need...I wouldn't like to do a few of those shanks with chesties on, even breathables! Oh, and beware if it's wet some of the marks up there get pretty treacherous in the rain.

Gary :)

You'll not be able to get on Ross Island at all. Like the others have said, you just need a good pair of boots. You'll get cut off on manxmans from about halftide (depending on the size of tide). Even with chesties, you'll have trouble wading off on big tides.
