Hi all,
I joined the site as i was up in alnmouth on holiday last week and wanted to see what sort of fishing i could do. the in laws live in dorset but i'm originally from newcastle so with me having less fammily up here than her in doors does down there, we tend to go south.
anyway - we (me and the kids - 10 and 12) started the week with completely the wrong kit so we throwing dexters and flattie spinners in for a day or so until we could get to a tackle shop. a trip to amble and we were set up with 3 sets of flapper rigs and a pile of rag worm. - didnt get a sniff. we were fishing from the turn in the river near the end of the wall. on wednesday switched to mackrel and bobs... one small flounder and 2 codlings. it was a really still calm night with high tide about 8 pm. really nice night. to the kids back the next day, a bit nearer the sea this time, and bingo.. all 3 hoooks on my flapper had flounders on, my daughter got one too. then another later on in the evening. we also had a stack of fair sized crabs nicking the bait too. just to keep the kids happy.
all in all we hade a great week and it just highlights the importance of picking the right gear and the right bait.
special mention to the fella and his dad next to me who gave me a couple of hooks when i had to cut my line cause the biggest flounder took it too far down. but then he did get the flounder for his bag. i can see meself getting up here for a long weekend with the lads some time soon.
oh and if anyone else is fishing the aln, is that loads of youths still camping out on the dunes? prats. leaving bottles and cans all over the place and generally intimidating anyone using the beach in the evening. not good.

It's not just youths.
I was plugging down there the other week and as it got to dusk I thought the Spanish Armada were on the way again as I watched fires suddenly start to light up all the way down to South Side....And these weren't youths.
