Leader length ??

Had a session today using a long 60lb leader from pier and had no problems at all casting:) Unfortunalty, I didn't get to test it pulling a fish up:(

Thanks for all the helpful replies:)

I used to use a blob knot which gave no problems casting at all, always used to try to make them on the spot though which can be tricky :o

I now just use a "double uni" apparently  but now only put one turn instead of the usually illustrated 3 or 4 in the shockleader end and it works just as well.

You could knock a load of ready blobbed leaders up at home though, just thought of that :red: Don't know what it's knot strength is compared to a more conventional type though.

I had problems with big shockleader knots when I started again but think it was a combination of dodgy line - some of the expensive ready made ones are rubbish - and poor knot tying skills which improve rapidly through having to tie the ******* things every 4 seconds ;)

The other line I rate is Suffix Supreme in the big daft spools, good value and nice and supple. Andy's own is just as good I use it to tie my rig bodies with as well. Nice yellow stuff, smells of Polar Bears.

i use drennan greased weasle for my shocker and rig body's 6 oz lead 60lb line
ive tried the tapered shockleaders in the past and found when casting the knot caught my thumb during the cast where as ure own main line to shocker is gone by the time ure thumb is neer the spool

as for long leaders ect from a peir id use lenth of my rod plus (depending on the peir) 10 to 15 turns of the reel
from the beach rod lenth then 4/5 turns of the reel
hope its of some help
