I bought my licence online earlier in the week and have left the printout of the receipt at work.

I wouldnt mind fishing tomorow but was wondering if I will get in trouble if I fish without the licence or proff of buying the licence? I put the start date as the 5th so it should be on record Ive have actually bought it.

Cheers :)

If you do, you'll be just about the unluckiest bloke in the country! You should be fine though - if you haven't got your licence on you, I'm pretty certain EA inspectors can call in to HQ and check you out on the database.

I've got to say though, the chances of having your licence checked are pretty bloody slim...

Cheers Yorkio, yeah Ive only had it checked once in all the years Ive fished but it would be just my luck to bump into him tomorow. I might have a word with the warden first and explian the situation.

Cheers.

I was checked last time out , fortunately I had my license with me. I have in the past been checked when I'd forgotten to take it , I was coarse fishing and my license was in my trout gear. I was cautioned and got the whole "you have the right to remain silent" etc. and had to take the officers to my car and they wrote down the registration number. I was allowed to carry on fishing with the promise that I would send my license to their head office in Leeds . I did that and all was fine.
I keep my license in my wallet now , it's the only thing that goes to every fishing venue I fish , don't miss a days fishing because your license is at work , just be prepared for a bit of hassle should you get stopped without it!

Ray.

P.S. I asked the E.A. bailiff how many anglers they caught without a license , he reckoned 99.5% of those stopped had a valid license , (why bother checking )

Cheers Ray, I may just pick up a day ticket in the morning to save any hassle. I really couldnt be chuffed with any bother and probably wouldnt relax thinking I was going to get nabbed. You never know it might turn up in tomorows post :)

Cheers for the info.

It is actually stated on your license that it is an offence not to carry one while you are fishing.I guess it depends what mood the blokes in when he pulls you they can check by there hand held pc whether youve got one or not

Slimchance of getting a licence cheque!
It depends on where your going, if your going to a popular venue then be prepared to get checked.
Sharpley and Strawberry Fields have had visits every weekend since the end of March, and i must say they have nabbed a few without licences.

i,ve been checked 6 times at strawberry ,3 times at monk lakes ,once at darrenth hill , 2 times at derwent over the last 3 years

let me know where you are going and i will not come see you fishing :D:D:D

Blimey, I honestly don't think I've ever had my licence checked! Then again, I only ever really fish rivers and club stillwaters, and I guess they don't target those so much for spot checks... (Just not enough people to bother with, I suppose.)

Well I ended up at Higham, I spoke to Andy who runs the office, explained the situation and he said that it should be ok as long as it was actually in the post.

Anyways I managed 3 fish which was not bad for the conditions. :)
