Was Looking at a guys set up last night and he had 20lb line on then a 60lb line on the end about 20ft long why is this? And is it essential I only use a 25lb line straight through

its called a shockleader why it takes the weight of a lead 10lb of line for every ounce of lead you cast out or most use strong leader if a decent fish needs to be handballed up

Had the same problem when i first started, this is an essential part of shore fishing , learn the knots and be safe.

Yes, 25lb line is fine if you're using light leads and only casting a short way. One nick in that line and you'll be armed with a 6oz lead that could kill someone.

so would you advise me on putting a 60lb shock leader on the fixed spool.....and is it ok to have the 25lb......

If your trying to cast distance a 60lb shockleader is a must, you wont need 20 yards though, just enough to go round your spool 3 or 4 times, through to your rig and sinker.
