Ling from the shore

I caught this one last year on the Isle of Mull. It was a deep water rock mark and it was caught on a 3/0 hook with a mackerel/bluey combo. 56cm 2.5lb

I've only had two from South Shields pier in 35 years of fishing it, and seen one other landed. Had a few small ones from Isle Of Whithorn in the past also.

It's a shame they don't turn up more regularly as they taste lovely :)

I have had one on a spinner at st abbs was around 2.5 lb i thought it was very strange to get one off the shore especially on a spinner i was well chuffed:o :cool:could not believe my eyes a few days later fishing the same mark when a mate done the same:eek:

Now that is exceptional m8. Sure it wasnt a massive sand eel? :D

I saw a lad catch this one on Roker Pier 3 or so years ago....it was a canny one too. If I remember rightly it took a small whiting that he had hooked.

Personally I've had one years ago from Dunstanburgh but that's my only one on our coast. I've had them from the Manxmans and other marks at kircudbright but only small ones at 2 or 3lb.

Regards Ian

Same here Ian, had two 3 pounders from manxmans.

:D No mate most definitely a small ling it was in the days before i had a camra phone:( but 100% ling i was bragging about it to a mate and could not believe our eyes when he pulled one in from the same spot a couple of days later:o never done this since so like you say exceptional what made it better is that i had made the spinner myself:)
