The time you can keep peelers depends on where they come from.
If they are from the local estuaries they will have mud in there gills and they don,t last as long as crab from open sandy beaches.
I keep crab from my traps in cat litter trays.Ones that are ready to use are just covered with a damp cloth,no need for sea water for this just wring it out under the tap.
Crab that are still quite hard are kept in 1/8 inch of sea water till they just start crack under the wings( for the first few days change the water daily as this will be quite muddy),then they are transfered to the other tray.
Usualy the bigger the crab the less time they will keep alive.
As i said above, this depends where they are from.
I have kept big west coast crab alive for up to 4 weeks using these methods, yet the same size crab from my traps only live half that time.
Small crab can be kept alive a lot longer.
You can bring on hard crab in a deep tank with an airstone, make sure and check them daily as you might get them casting there shell when your not expecting it....
