Fished the lower tyne estuary lastnite, first cast small codling 2nd cast picked rod up just about to reel in with it being in the water for about 30mins without no movement and as av picked it up sumthing nearly pulled me rod out me hand. Waiting a second and felt it again so struck instinly new it was a decent fish. 5 mins later got it too the pier wall a cod estimated about 8lb going berserk but before av had a chance to do anything yes you guessed it SNAPPPPPP :-( :-(:-(:-( GUTTED!!!!!!!

Was that you fishing just past the first gate? If it was it was me that saw it snap just as we where getting to ya. Gutted for ya.

Tough luck Carlos mate.
I was fishing next to a very good angler on the Heugh at Hartlepool one day when he hooked into an 8lb er. He was only using two hook flapper rig with small hooks. He brought the fish up to the surface and then walked along to the steps gently guiding the fish along. I went down the steps and got the fish for him.
I know this is not always the case as usually there are no steps but it was good to see someone experienced dealing with a big fish.
Mick.

Cheers mate ano excatly how your son feels theres nothing worse what annoyed me most is a actual seen it but as soon as a grabbed me main line SNAPPPP it was gone never to be seen again :-(

If i had a orange imax flotation jacket on and was casting into the river then yeah that was me mate.

that would have been you then mate. We set up just down from ya (I'm the wee scottish lad :D), then alan set up just past us. Wish i could have got to ya quicker. I lost a set of gear and went to change me reel but my reel seat threaded (stupid century reel seat!!) and i could'nt get my reel off and that really peeved me off, thats why we just left. Apoligies for that.

unlucky on the lost fish m8 big hooks plenty lentgh shocky and 60lb body and hook snood length might save the loss next time sometimes it helps to plan a way for getting a big fish in before hand incase ;)

well thats my plans these next few weeks ;)

Dnt worry mate haa! Al not be letting a decent fish get away ever again ano that. Gutted it would of been me first sizeable cod this winter. Going to give it another shot wednesday and al be more prepared.

unlucky for the lad who lost the fish, few times i have fished the beach and not bothered changing the length of shockleader for the piers on the next session which could have resulted in a lost fish:o
