well today we were meant to be up st abbs, but I have a few hours at work later so we had a change of plan.
We headed to Tynemouth pier to fish from it closing until about 2ish. the pier was rammed last night with 6 lads already on the end when we got there but we managed to squeeze in.
there was very little wind and the temperature never dropped below 10 degrees.
we all setup our rods and first cast my dad pulled in a small codling of about 20 cm's, next cast he then has a double shot of flounder and codling and cast after he has a dab.
meanwhile I am struggling picking a birds nest out, I chucked out my bass rod with a flapper on it and went back to sorting out the nest, eventually I got it out and chucked back out using a pully rig to see if I can get a decent codling, on my first cast on the small bass rod it had a good weight on when bringing it back in, a codling of 30cm and also my rig I had lost due to a crack off, hand lined the rig in which also had as codling on which was just on size at 35cm. got kept for the pan as was gut hooked.
after that me and me dad had a fish almost every cast with the codling getting slightly bigger every time. we had dabs, flounder, coalie, codling and I managed a poor cod.
ross was more interested in his bass rod which he had setup a float and was determined to catch fish on the float in the dark which he did manage a small rockling and a Pollock of 36cm. he was over the moon and the first time he caught on the float at night. he did manage a few dabs and codling on his bait rod.
then I struck into something decent no the bass rod and seen me having to pump it in. got it to the surface and it is what I had hope a decent codling hooked the bottom lip. me dad handballed it up and over the side came a codling of 51cm and a weight of just over 3lb.
when I gutted the fish it had a crab 4 sandeel's to hooks and a stone in its belly. bloody greedy thing
Fantastic just what I wanted a good end to a brilliant night on the pier plenty fish and good crack.
we packed up at 2 and headed home.
