Lure Fishing Shields Pier 11th June 2012

I fished Shields pier tonight with my spinning rod and a bag of lures from just after 6pm until dark which was about half an hour or so after high water. I started off at the 43 mark. There was a cormorant about 100 yards out and I could see him eating a small fish so it looked like a good sign. I fitted a 28g silver minnow and cast that for about twenty minutes until it snagged up and I lost it so I changed to a Berkeley Gulp sandeel then got a big knock but didn't connect with the fish. A couple of casts later I felt a light weight on the rod and reeled in a small pollack....

It went quiet after that so I moved up to a spot about half way between the blocks and the end and fished there for the rest of the session (about three hours) using Gulp sandeels and also jelly worms (black/red firetail). I didn't catch any more fish but did get some lovely seaweed :p

Nice little pollock mate and better than being in the hoose! Im heading down tomorow with spinning rod and lures in hand! Taking my little bro and see if there is much about. Probs try the blocks area... tends to be the best area for me.... see if i can winkle out a keeper or two... :)
