Lure Rods - Pike Fishing

Morning lads,

Apologies if this sounds like an obvious question; would a lure rod that people use for bass (generally 7'6'' - 9' 7-40g) be suitable for Pike lure fishing?

The reason I ask is because I was in the Lake district at the weekend staying in Grasmere and I noticed a few people Pike fishing. I also took a boat out in Esthwaite and understand there are some huge Pike in there also. I have caught Pike years ago but would certainly fancy giving the lure aspect a go.

I am soon to buy a lure rod and given that some of the Pike in the lakes can grow to well over 20 lbs, I wondered whether a typical lure rod would stand up to the task or whether a more specialised Pike rod is required for the task?

Any advice/experience appreciated.

Cheers

P.S. Anyone had any lure success in the sea yet or is it still a bit chilly?

The rod you have mentioned states the casting weight from 7-40 grams, this will dictate what size lures you can cast which are light to medium.
Obviously the lighter the rod the less control you have on bigger pike or harder fighting pike. This can be more fun on lighter gear but this time of year the pike will exert themselves and fight harder so quicker the better to land them.

I would be more than happy to use this rated rod, just match it up with decent reel and braid.
