well after last weeks freddie mercury debacle, this weekend here in sunny (not) rookhope if any one wants a treat is what has been billed as a \'full WWII re-enactment weekend\"

they\'ve all put blast tape on their windows, and some of the old timers have been wandering around doing the preparations wearing tin hats they obviously kept in a box labelled \'just in case\'

scariest of all is the convresation I overheard discussing the \'explosives\' demonstrations that are due to take place, made even more frightening when you see the \'caravan\' the \'expert\' turned up in - I wouldn\'t let the dog sleep in it (if he hadn\'t been sadly put down on wednesday)

I have my suspicions that this expert is actually a midget that may or may not of escaped from Gerry Cottle\'s clutches as the caravan, you could probably put it in the back of a tranny van

the events are to be rounded off with a victory parade and glenn miller tribute orchestra!

I also suspect, non-locals may be interred for the duration, we are thinking of trying to claim political asylum in Prudhoe
 
Are the kids being evacuated Mark?
Judging by the confidence in the explosives \"expert\", it sounds like the bowels are already being evacuated :o :o
 
even barking bob johnson mentioned us earlier, Its all a recipe for disaster, especially if it rains heavy, they even...and I kid you not...moved the river for the weekend!, levelled one of the old mine spoil heaps across the river to provide access to one of the fields, only by about 15 feet, but the river ain\'t gonna like it

I might have to video some of it, make a few quid from michael buerk on 999, or you\'ve been framed at least

if the damn phones/internt would work for more than 5 mins in any hour I\'d even set up a web came for the day

The WWII event came and went, the whole weekend had a distinctley dads army feel to it. I swear to god Captain Mainwairing has been re-incarnated and was in the village this weekend, the \'home guard\' who set up the camp numbered arounbd 20, full WWII battle dress, field tents, cookhouse etc, (strangely not a wife/gilrfriend to be seen)they even had a guard rosta with some of the poor sods spending 4hours at a chuck through the night patroling the camp perimeter! poor bastards must of been eaten alive as the midges were of scottish proportions over the weekend.

wish I\'d had me camera on sunday, it would of made a superb photo, 3 nazi stormtroopers in full kit queing to use the phone box! Talking to captain mainwaring that I\'d seen some germans using the phone, he took me to one side and in hushed tones, revealed they were probably trying to communicate with their forward command and that they didn\'t know where they were camped, easy sez I, they\'re in the pub garden (not daft these jerries), yes he said, but \'we\' don\'t know that, and then suggested I might 5 a fifth columnist and should be taken in for questioning, taken where sez I, headquarters sez he, where\'s that sez I, its that tree over there with the headquarters sign on it sez he. I asked him if he got out much and he said not much since the wife left.

sunday morning he had em all up \'square (pub carpark) bashing\' for nearly an hour, although their numbers were down slightly on saturday. turns out some of those that had been on guard duty the previous night (12 till 4) were in the guard house (a large bush this time with a tent & portaloo behind) for going awol whilst on duty - they bugggered off straight to the pub where they got locked in til the early hours and got completely wasted with the \'enemy\'

can\'t wait for DV8 to turn up this weekend

and just to make matters worse the phone up here are all still mental, its like on giant village wide party line, more often than not you pick the phone up and some one is therre already discussing sheep lubrication or some such. so just to keep my self sane I\'ve gone into papa lazarou mode (see avatar)and interupted their conversations along the lines off \"hello dave\" \" is dave there\" etc etc etc
