main line colour

does it make any difference what colour main line you use ,i use 20lb ultima dark brown, which i cannot see at night ,it,s also quite hard to see during the day, so if i used bright flourecent pink line [if you can get it] would it spook the fish ,or would it attract them or is it six and two threes, why i ask this is that the big companies manufature a bewilldering array of coloured line, is any one better than another.:red::red::red:

I dont think color makes a difference. You should be looking at other factors such as, abrasion quality, knot strength, casting qualities etc.

coarse fishing or freshwater fishing in general where the fish are warey of 'traps' because they've seen hooks before line colour matters to an extent, in the sea where fish are oblivious as to what fishing line and anglers are it doesn't really matter.

Personally I've used Sensor (ok, but nothing fancy), Ultima F1 (black) and found it mint, I'm not trying Ultima Power Plus (for chub n barbel freshwater as well as shore fishing) it's a greeny-clear colour so far I can't complain.

As seanyrooroo said, abrasion resistance and knot strength are far more important factors.

Since most people use a shock leader, your main line is going to be away from the fish anyway so I dont think it matters. If you want to see your line at night just use a bright one.

I use Sakuma nite crystal which is bright yellow, i dont use it because of the colour i use it because it has never let me down and it does'nt seem to bother the fish, i do alright with it.

If you're fishing in fairly clear waters, red is the first colour of the spectrum to dissapear in water, making it harder for the fish to see.

I use nothing but Daiwa tournament, same as sless,
Dont think colour makes that much difference, I think I remember reading somewhere that different colours fade out of the spectrum at depth so I think they're pretty much invisible, but dont quote me on that :D

Edit: oops, as previously mentioned ;)

I use 25lb. trilene big game which is clear, and my mates use 25lb. diawa tourniment which is brown and we both catch equal amounts of fish.

which is not many..:D

I don't think colour of mainline matters that much when fishing in colour'd water

i have used yellow sakuma main line fishing for carp no problem even had roach on it , i do make my hook links out of clear line when doing any kind of fishing though

aye steve, good line but i dont like it over a sandy bottom, much prefer the invizi-line by anyfish, available in large spools as well as every breaking strain, cracking stuff !!!
