Could anyone shed some light on how some fishing marks get there names? Some names are obvious but some have no relavance
to features, fishing or area etc and these are mainly rocks marks, also intetested in history of marks too if possible even if its not fishing related
thanks

Good question mate, I'll haave a go with my limited knowledge of marks like -

Brass ball = the end of shields pier where there's a round brass ball insert in the ground.

Mark 44 etc = a place on ss marked with these numbers

Doctors hoose = a mark up howick just down from where a doctor used to live, total guess like:D

The cannons = a mark up eyemouth with some old cannon remains on top of the cliffs

charlies garden = a mark at colywell bay, why it's called that I ain't got a clue:D:D

Well that's my input mate, hope others will sort it out properly for yer:D

Thats a place i always used to walk past Trev, quite snaggy and never threw up many fish.
Yet not 50yds away the Lane is one of the best fishing marks on the NE coast.
As you and many others well know.
I,v had some big bags from there over the years..
Here,s a one.
The Target at Ryhope.Where the name comes from i don,t know.
It doesn,t fish half as good now as it used too when the bottom was mixed rock and sand.
Now its full of kelp.
Still hoys up the odd decent fish, but its a right pain to get down to now.
The old hot spot is marked on the pic,30yd cast was far enough.
