well another session out the way, third one in the space of 8 days,me and wayne headed to a fantastic low water shot at the base of the cliffs a couple of gullies south of marsden rock,we arrived about an hour before low water and set up the gear away from the water with the intention of wading onto a couple of big rock ledges and keeping hold of the rods whilst actually fishing.
baits we were trying were mussel, razor, lug, runnydown, squid and macky, although i have to admit im not keen on using macky unless targeting whities but have had some good reports from the local area saying that a decent size macky bait has taken its fair share of codling.
we were out onto a couple of ledges as fast as possible with the waves crashing in(got to admit that it was exciting rock fishing to say the least and not for the faint hearted) after a few casts it was evident that the crabs were about and a bait couldnt be left for to long without being stripped, the first hour was uneventfull in terms of bites but the weather was getiing worse all the time, with the wind now blowing a strong northeasterly direction and rain that felt like it was coming sideways.
just into the flood i was the first to get a solid bite but it never came back, then wayne hooked into a decent fish which nearly pulled his rod out of his hands but this came off very close in bumping it over some of the kelp covered rocks,i did get a look at it tho and estimated it to be around 5lb ish although its always hard to tell the true wait in those circumstances.after a couple more casts we were getting the odd decent bite but they werent coming back, and we decided to move cos the sea was building all the time and it was starting to get a bit hairy with the wind and rain.the wind was now blowing a steady northerely direction again so it was hard to decide on were to go fo a bit shelter with the piers being a definate no no.in the end we fished inside the piers in the tyne from the little pier with the beacon on it(cant remember the name of the place)we were pestered with crabs at this spot and only landed a couple of little tommies, after another couple of hours we called it a night just after 12.30.with the way the wind was blowing last night and with it being forecast for a few days we should be seeing some decent fish landed this week.i cant make it out again till next week but am sure there is a codling with my name on it out there somewhere

Spot on bit of fishing. I,m down Hartlepool Friday tides canny high at 4:30pm. Was hoping to get out on Maggie May but if not no worries. I,ll save me £27 and buy some bait and go off one of the local piers.
Poss Steetly ? we,ll see.

Cheers Mick.
