Measuring the distance of a cast

This is a dead easy thing. Best done on your practice ground such as a footie pitch or somewhere where you have identifiable spots such as along past groynes etc.

Just use Google Earth to make the measurement for you.

Yes I agree dead easy ..... just come to a NESA casting event and have it measured properly on a accurately measured court , then if you need something 3 football pitches long to measure your cast we have it :-D

Just say you can hit 150 yards with a massive bait like most people who you talk to when fishing claim. In reality hardly anyone (including me) can get anywhere near that distance with or without bait.

This is true everyone says there putting a bait about 150yds in reality it's less than 100

im sure alan yates done a test a few years ago, he got a bunch of lads together asked them how far they can cast, then he put them to the test on a beach with a baited rig, 90% of them didnt even get over 100 yrds,

theres to much skill in fishing now, i go out cast my 80yrds and have fun, old school fishing

Generally 40yds to 80yds is good enough when fishing from pier's / Rock edges / jetty's & the likes as your usually in deep enough water anyway...;)

So Casting these sort of distances doesn't really comes into play. However when fishing most beach's being able to belt a baiting out is usually a great advantage.......

I think huge distance 140 plus only pays off in daylight not that I can do it just what I have seen

Can be handy to be able to chuck a lead,ie when it's ruff n u need to put a bait out behond the waves:rolleyes:.Like mentioned distance not everything, most fish this winter dwn my way fell to close range,20/40yrds out:o:cool:

Good idea that measuring on google earth I've just measured the broken jetty at Hendon prom first bay, it measures approx. 90 yards or 81.5 metres, I can get further than it in normal wind conditions, which is fair enough for me. I did measure a cast by marking line at reel using a sharpie, then I took line to work got someone to drive pulling line out etc and measured it with a wheel it was a 142 metres but this was without a bait. I've always been conservative when estimating my distance, so I don't stop trying to improve it.
