I was in Cancun a few years back, I tried surface mid and deep dive popers, with nowt to show.
I asked the chef for a squid and ledgered with that, mint. 15 mins to land a fish on similar gear you using. they run you up and down the beach
if your lures do no good or are slow try a bit squid mate.

Cheers Paul,I ll try that its just most reports seem to have lads using lures. But seems to be some decent fishing over there if i can get off me sunbed and away from the Corona long enough to wet a line ;)

Let us know how you get on please, I am going in September and the wife would hate me to miss out on some fishing while we are there :p

Where in Mexico are you going its a big place? On the west coast most of the fishing is done just offshore within a couple of miles where the water is clearer or where there are features and tide rips. The offshore boats go quite a way out for the bigger game fish. When I was there the boats tended to troll rapala type lures in the bay of Banderas I saw huge bait balls nearly everywhere I went and jacks thrashing the surface, amazing to see. Tried for them off the shore and it was a waste of time. Squid was quite good for catching snappers/ bream up to about 3lb off the jetties. Great scrappers on a light rod. Most of the boats are out for first light.
