Minimum flattie gear

All my tackle has gone (left where I just moved from) and am wanting to get the step son interested in sea angling by starting with flattie sessions along the Shields coast.
I am due to start work next week (Wahey !) so can't afford yet to go out and buy all singing all dancing gear, so was wondering what you lot reckon the least I would get away with targetting flatties to start with, and maybe the mackey later ? Don't really want to go above 12' and don't want the cheapest of rods that bounce about and you never spot a bite either !
I would want a multiplier (don't know what the minimum requirements for these shores would be) and he will probably be better starting with a fixed spool.
Any suggestions would be great :)
Cheers

Shakespeare Salt Flattie Rod - £40

or a Carp Rod...again no more than £40

The Shakespeare rod is apparently rung for use with multi - but I use a F/S with it...it's a case of how much you're willing to pay for one I guess..

I used this for float fishing over in the Mull the other week and it coped fine, it would also cope with spinners over 1oz plus too

Hope this helps

Theres one across the road from the new Lidl (or Aldi, cant remember which) at laygate also, normally have rag, lug, yellows, crab now and then if you get your order in early. S&A Tackle.
