We were heading for the open sea by 6 this morning and headed to a wreck first that has produced a few doubles for us lately.
My dad was straight in to a GOOD fish that was stripping line off his reel and putting up a hell of a fight, he managed to get it away from the wreck and most of the way up before it managed to spit the hook. Gutted !!! But thats the way it goes sometimes. I would have liked to have seen this fish tho.
After that it was slow going, so we decided we would try a couple of wrecks further north that we had'nt tried in a while.
The water was the clearest I have seen it all season today.
Things did'nt pick up much really apart from the odd ling up to 7 lb, untill we tried a wreck we call "EJ" named after the charter boat evlyn jane, as the first few times we fished it years ago e jane would turn up just after us every time.
I had a mad 10 mins on this wreck, getting a cod just over 10 lb and a one just under 10 lb, aswell as a couple of ling around 6-8 lb but as soon as it started it stopped.
We tried a bit of rough ground after that and had a few small 1-2 lb codling from it, before heading in just before dinner.
The shads took second place today and my homemade orange pirk accounted for the better fish. Not alot of fish today but had the odd half decent one.
I had to take the trebble off the pirk as it was tangled in the net bigtime.
It was impossible to get to the bottom with hokkies today
