Headed through the lock gates about 7 this morning to a better than expected sea, with only a slight swell, which slowly died off throughout the day.

First stop was a big wreck and before I could get tackled up and in the water my dad had already landed a nice codling and a pollack. After a few more drifts we added a few more codling and pollack to the tally before moving on to our next stop.

Next stop was a bit of rough ground and we were straight into a few smallish codling and mackeral, we could'nt seem to pluck any bigger cod out so we moved again, this time to another wreck and we were straight into a better stamp of fish with plenty cod up to 8 lb
aswell as the odd coalie and pollack. Somehow the word had spread and soon their was 4 or 5 boats on the wreck with us so we had a move to another wreck and left them to it.

The next wreck was only a small lump and I did'nt think it would be up to much, but it did us proud with ling and cod upto the 8 lb mark again nearly ever drift. It kept me busy with it only being a small lump, I had to keep bringing the boat around for another drift every 5 mins, but it usually paid off.
We were plagued with mackeral at one point and had a few drifts without getting down to the wreck at all.

About 2 ish the wind started to freshen a bit so we made our way back in, stopping off on route to try another wreck but only pouting were found and a few white caps started to appear so we headed back in, and listened to z germans giving us a whopping on the radio, while we were sorting the catch out.

Majority of fish were put back, kept half a dozen codling, a ling, a pollack and about a dozen mackeral.

I tried my best today to pluck a bigger fish out with a variety of shads, but ended up back on the hockies/ lures and pirk combo as my dad was cleaning up with his.

No camera today so just a few pics of my phone;

Sounds like you have shares in Famous lol.
She is a lovely boat tho, see her out their quite a bit, Dave always gives us a wave.

Did you catch all the fish on rough ground ?

Some nice fish there Martin. We were out on Sunday had some nice cod and ling from the 8 mile wrecks up to 10lb.

Tried a few drifts up that wreck you give me only managed a few small coalys.

Well done Martin, but its a bit hit and miss inside due to the algae.

After looking at the forecast for the weekend we went for the Saturday even though it was giving Easterlies later on, whereas the Sunday was 10mph Southerlies. Didnt fancy either day after 2.00pm. An early start was called for we thought.

The water is still a bit dirty inside and the killing zone at the moment is the wrecks and rough ground off Skinningrove/Boulby on silver shads. Nice clear water out there and the shads are doing the business particularly when the sun comes out. I noticed one of the Whitby charter boats prowling around, but looking at the comp results he didn't do as well as us. Shame.

What size shads have you been using Alan.
Anyones you reccommend??

Tried using them on Sunday over the wrecks but done much better on the pirks?

I like the Daiwa megaforce shads personally;
Daiwasports.co.uk - Megaforce Sonic Shads

These are the only ones I have seen with round profile hooks and 3 out of 4 times if you get snagged they will bend straight and pull free, whereas the forged square profile hooks (calcutta/storm shads) dont bend at all and are lost every time.

The 10cm ones catch the most fish but the mackeral also like them. The 12cm ones weed out the smaller fish and the stamp of cod in you box will be bigger, but less.

Ive found the darker shades work best when the sun is overhead, but right now the cod are preoccupied with spratts, so silver is the killer.

I use tubi booms, but you can also rig them like this;

Hope this helps.
