I have recently been given some old fishing tackle. Amongst the rusty hooks,swivels and lead weights, there were the two following items of interest;

A 12ft Taylor + Johnson, Redditch, Worcestershire "Rapier" fishing rod
A Mitchell Garcia 600 multiplier.

The tackle must be 30 plus years old. I vaguely remember the Mitchell Garcia multipliers being the dog's bollocks in those days, but never heard of the fishing rod.

Can anybody in their later years of life, remember such fishing equipment, are they collectors items or just destined for the tip.

Redditch used to be a rod building centre. A mixture of companies and one man band rod builders. That was in the old greenheart, split cane and fibre glass days. You could go into any tackle shop, see a row of rods and half of them were made in Redditch.
Can't help you with the company, never heard of them but there were loads of Mitchell 600's around. Most of what I remember was the ammount of lads untangling birdies.
