Monster continental rods

Has anyone used one of the monster 15 foot floppy continental rods like the Shakespeare K2 Extreme or the Grauvell Infinity? If so – can you catch fish with them?

Mebbes I\'m being naive, or I \'ve not understood your question properly. Of course you can catch fish with them, does the fish know or care what rod you\'ve got
If you think about a lot of continental fishing, it is done with light lines in clear water. As far as I know, these super long rods are good fishing rods, but wouldn\'t be much good for bullying a good cod out of a kelpy or rocky hole.

I\'m sure they are as good as they say but only for where they\'ve been tested. The people in the press raving about them are the ones usually fishing matches on the south coast where they are often scratching about including undresize fish counting on a catch and release basis. I\'m sure they are good for this but I don\'t see much call for them on this coast.

That is generalising but better off getting a more sensitive beach/bass/flattie rod for light work on our coast. Just my opinion of course.

Grey\"s have just brought two more rods onto the market. They are both three piece rods, one is 14 foot the other is sixteen foot. I phoned them up a couple of weeks ago and they said they would be available from the beggining of October. They are known as the Triplex range. Will be interested to see how they do.

Whilst on holiday in France earlier this summer, I got a 15 foot Daiwa Tornado - Z (not available on the British market). Fishing clean sand and mud (with the odd boulder) it\'s very comfortable (extremely light), has excellent bite detection and comparing it with A Daiwa TDSS140FA and Conoflex DC6 that I have, it is not as floppy as you would think. It\'s OK for a Brighton/Uni-cast off the ground style cast and can handle more severe casting styles. I fish it with a big fixed spool, 15 lb mainline and 3/4/5 oz weights but it can handle heavier weights.

If your fishing is into rocky kelp holes etc., then stick to a stiffer poker (that\'s why I have the Conoflex). But if you have the luxury to fish locations where more refined tackle is an option, then why not try a bit of continental. Who knows, you might like it !

Chris it must have been a really good rod to fish that type of ground and more suprisingly to be able to chuck that weight at the paltry size of 15\" - Slesses Littln has got a rod that size except it was made with Scooby Doo transfers on it,and Jessica still outfishes Sless with it LOL

Well spotted Brian, I never was much of a typist. These bifocal glasses don\'t help, it\'s off and on double vision depending on the tilt of the head.

Jim i was talking to ald yesterday who had a bash of one of the Greys protatypes and said it wasn\'t that good however the production rods he says are better. Still think lighter, more sensitive rod will be more use. I use a Conoflex Source Estuary Match which I think is superb. It can still chuck 5oz and is 13ft, very tippy but has power in the middle if you hit something better. It gets around using a stiff poker when smaller fish are expected but with a chance of better ones. Used it to take codling of around 3lb off Blyth Pier last winter but you have to haul them up as the tip just pulls round. (wasn\'t intending using it off the pier).
