Multiplier or fixed spool ?

I am thinking about fishing the rocks at Cresswell and would like to know what people think is the best type of reel for the job. I have an old Diawa fixed spool reel and an Abu 6500. Which reel would be best suited or should I invest in something a bit more powerful. I`m not sure what the Diawa reel model is but it`s a big heavy beast. I am also considering fishing around Craster and Dunstanburgh castle area so the reel needs to be able to cope with the rocks around there. Any advice would be gratefully received.

ide invest in another reel m8...such as a slosh 30-20 or a penn mag or a saltist 30 -20.your fixed spool will do the job m8 if its a big fixed spool and not a spinning reel lol

Depends what you prefer really. As already said the daiwa slosh 20/30 or saltist are something to think about. Its what I've always used but I'm buying a daiwa opus bull and filling it with 66lb power pro with a mono leader for the heavy stuff as well. Its another string to your bow and a successful one at that.

ive just bought saltist 30h mate used it at weekend on rough stuff good solid reels great retrieve as well i also have TF Gear Delta GT 8000 fixed spool reel which i use on the rocks and it copes really well with fixed spools i find cheap ones with one ore to ballbearings struggle with bigger fish ive read articles that a decent one shld have at least four in them
abu 6500 i think is for clean ground i might be wrong

i would go for a heavy fixed spool reel as fishing feally rough areas you need to get your gear back quick!
multies are faster but if you dont use a levelwind(Levelwinds kill distance) it can be a pain reeling in quick and laying the line at the same time!
with a fixed spool you can still get a good distance if required and reel in like the clappers without the worry!

Don't know if you'd be interested mate but I have a pair of Sealine X SHV 20's looking for a new home and going cheap. Excellent reels to cast and fish with and both in good condition with new line and leaders. Pm me if interested.

I must admit I'm not a massive fan of fixed spools as they reduce casting distance but as you say for the rough stuff they're fine I tried my okuma impact 65 at sluice yesterday in the low down position and loved using it there. I'm actually considering using in the rough all the time
