Muppet rigs

Gonna be making up some boat rigs for the first time, so got a load of muppets to make some two or three hook rigs, but was wondering what length to make the snoods??? Also, I've already got a load of 5/0 Varivas big mouths, is there any reason not to use those?? (most boat rigs I've seen seem to use o'shaugnesy hooks)
Cheers

Hi Andy,
I make muppet snoods about 10 inches long (after knotting) and tie one so it hangs 6 inches below the weight and the second so it hangs about 4 to 6 inches above the weight (ie top one tied on to line 16 inches or so above the weight) This way you know that one of them is trailing the bottom if you keep touching the lead down and the other is swimming about 10 inches above bottom.
Just a note as well to keep them from slipping I always use 2 beads, one inside the head and up against the hook knot then another outside above the head with a sequin above it and a simple knot to prevent the sequin and bead from slipping ..... they seem to last longer and look better longer this way.

Good Luck

Norm

ps I only use orange :) :) :) unless I run out :)

I make muppet snoods....Good Luck

That's great Norm! Just the info I was after, thanks.

I was thinking about using three way swivels, so something like this?? Or is better to use dropper loops

Could also put a weak link between the lead and bottom swivel.

Thanks again Norman; I've got a place on the blueyeII in a couple of weeks time so trying to get my head around it all. :D

I just use a dropper loop, the bottom hook hangs and inch or so above the sinker so the bottom of half a mackerel fillet trails the bottom.

I use 10/0 hooks with 70lb Asso line.

Or blood loops...have a go, they're easy too :)

I've used a rig like you've drawn up before and it worked no worries

I think the thing when you go out more often is that you begin to under design and simplify the rigs to minimise cost as these things will get lost at some point!

PS the varivas will be fine ;) but if you go out more often move to stronger hooks..

Dropper loops like Keith & Chris - Try mixing the colours on the rig -although I prefer orange 1st & pink 2nd - be prepared to loose a few though.
