need a cod!

Mate, I see you are a junior member, here's a few tips from a more experience member.

You really need to wait for the fall of darkness. That gives the fish more confidence to come further inshore, as they feel safer foraging around the shallows. That is also when they are on the feed.

Then get yourself down the beach with your waterproofs, headlight, beach casting gear, solid boots, a flask of coffee, a few sandwiches, and a fully charged phone in case of emergencies.

Rig up your rod, one with a 2 hook flapper, rotten bottom, big cocktail baits, best to use peeler crab, hard to get and expensive, but worth it in the end. Add a lug or ragworm to the hooks and give it some welly using the OTG method. You need to get out about 200 yards. Set the drag on the reel and place it on your tripod, get out coffee and sandwiches and wait for the inevitable slack liner. Soon you will be into a fresh run 5lb cod. Don't rush the retrieve, be gentle with it and after a few minutes pure adrenaline rush your fish will be on the beach at your feet.

It worked a treat for me last night.................................................It's called a dream! :red:

Reading this months sea angler quote"the cod are in marra" also it says some anglers are bagging up and it looks like being a great winter for cod fishing.Have fished roker pier, seaham pier, hendon prom ryhope beach and cliff tops and had no cod bigger than 1lb is it because im useless at fishing and only top match men can catch fish? confused.

every year its the same the comics tell us its going to be a bumper year and every year the fishing gets worse just remember the catch reports in them are at least a month out of date so when tou read it the fish are gone much better getting out when the sea is away or just after try picking times when conditions are right and you wont go far wrong
