First trip of the year yesterday. Through the piers and headed south to the Northern Hills, we had two codling there and a big granny fish! The fishing went off at slack water so we moved around a bit trying off hauxley head and behind the coquet before a last ditch attempt at me avoiding a blank off killiekrankie for a flattie! All to no avail! My mate mickey taking all of the fish with me not even registering a bite, it was my birthday as well! It can only get better! Hopefully off through the week if the weather permits. Micky's fish were taken on baited hokkis but we tried everything from shads to razorfish and crab, I just don't think the fish are there in any numbers yet, still a great day out with flat calm seas.
Could anyone let me know how to add photo's to the report please, checked the FAQ's but couldn't see it there, thankyou, Graham.

Nice one Graham, always good to get out even if it`s not a productive day... : the boating aspect is as good as the fishing part.

I used to keep my previous boat at Amble (an Icelander 18ft) and the fish always appeared there about two weeks or so after the tyne.
You could almost read the reports of the catches moving north through blyth cambois newbiggen etc as the weather improves.
Since this week is the first decent catch weekend at the tyne I would expect Amble to be fishing next week or the wek after ..... good luck mate, keep us informed.

Thanks for that Norman,

I used to have a boat in the boat club at Amble when I was a kid and the plan was out of the piers and turn right up until the middle of June and then left afterwards! The fish always seem to show south first. What was your icelander like? was she a good boat? Me and my mate who I am halfers with Nefin looked at upgrading to a quicksilver pilothouse 500 or 540 this year but the budget wouldnt stretch!(two kids and a big mortgage on my part!) An icelander would be a cheaper alternative with the same enclosed wheelhouse that we wanted for comfort.

Yes Iceleander is a good rugged sea boat, the one I had had been converted to an inboard from an outboard .... not really the best I felt, it had a bmw 2ltr petrol so was expensive to run and also had the problems of being on a leg (z drive). The boat itself and a number of others I`ve seen and been out on were far better with outbuards anything around 60-80hp was enough.
