Well.....as the rest of the family are away down to Manchester for a days shopping on Saturday and I\'ve got the day to myself......I\'m gonna have a shufties around some musical instruments shops for a new acoustic guitar. A new addition to my growing family of guitars is long overdue......lol.

Got my mind on a couple:

There\'s this one:

and there\'s this one:

I\'ve heard some really good reports on the \"Vintage\" (top one), but I really DO fancy the \"Takamine\"........very reliable and quality make.

I\'ll probably come away with something completely different and costing a helluva lot more than I\'d planned......lol

When I\'ve been looking around on the \'net at possibilities, I came accross a make of guitar I\'d not heard of before, \"Manson\".

These acoustics are hand built to specification and they only make 12 instuments a year. All the guitars are named after birds, \"sandpiper\", \"dove\", \"magpie\", \"heron\" and \"kingfisher\".

All of the above models are the same price.........................£4,299.00 :o :o :o :o :exclam:

LOL got me good ole echo`s 6 and 12 for about £50 each :) :) :)
long time ago now but they`re still in tune ........ (shame I`m not) :)

I had an EKO Ranger (6 string version) for years, Norman and loved it. The tone was brilliant and the quality of the wood used was incredible for the price. Don\'t know why I ever got rid of it (not had it now for over 20 years), but I wish I hadn\'t.

Think they were made in Italy.

Aye TC I igot the 6 and 12 string EKO Rangers .... must be all of .. (i`m counting here) ..... 31 years ago :) :) ...... mind you I`ve changed the strings 3 or 4 times !

Norman.......got a pleasant surprise for you........take a look on here:

EKO Ranger 6 string........now going for £249
EKO Ranger 12 string......now going for £245

Just makes me wish I had held on to mine even more, now......lol

I play an old Crafter F500 electro-acoustic at the minute (and it\'s not to be sniffed at for the money I paid - great action) but pre-divorce I had these 2 beauties :(

An Ovation CS247 Celebrity special

And a Washburn EA36 (crap picture but gorgeous to play)

I love the sound of the Takamines through a good acoustic amp (Marshall ;) ) but the Simon & Patrick SP6 range and the Taylor Big Baby have the best acoustic tone I\'ve heard for the money :P :D

Without doubt Rob, those you mention: Simon & Patrick SP6 range and the Taylor Big Baby are excellent quality.
I\'ve already got a couple of \"dreadnaughts\" though and fancy a \"jumbo\" style this time, so they never came into the equation.

Could never really get on with those slim, round back acoustics.
My mate had (might still have - not seen him for a while) an Ovation (dunno the model, but it cost a flamin\' fortune for such an un-aesthetic instrument). I had several attempts, but just couldn\'t get on with the round back - sound was good, mind ;-)

Lol about the \"pre-divorce\" bit........worked the opposite way round with me........my 1st electric was a lovelly blonde Telecaster........then got married.......sold it to buy carpets for our first flat (carpeted the hall, landing sitting room and bedroom. Personally, I would\'ve been happy to put up with floorboards and a couple of rugs.......and keep me Tele.....lol

Mind you........mentioning your Crafter has given me another one to consider - just been looking on the \'net and seen this one:

Yeah, it wasn\'t just the electro-acoustics that went, I also had to lose a 1978 Gibson \"The Paul\" which had a walnut body and an ebony fretboard and a Digitech RP12 multi effects processor.

Is there that much difference in sound/tone between the dreadnoughts and the jumbo\'s? That\'s what attracted me to the Simon & Patrick range, the different woods and tones available, still hankering for a Takamine though.

The GA8 got rave reviews in Total Guitar magazine by the way ;)

Tony, my older brother still has a Hoffner Blonde 12 string. Its about 40 year old and still in mint condition. I asked him how much it was worth and he just gave me a funny look and muttered that it was part of his life and money could,nt buy it.

New addition to the family has arrived...........

Well......I tried out those I mentioned previously - and a whole host of others (had a great time thisafternoon.....lol).

Finally decided upon this one - It\'s a make I\'d not heard of before (not many of these over here - mainly in the States)...\"SAMICK\". This is the Samick J2:

samick3.jpg

The tone is fantasic, and sounded much nicer than some of the other, MUCH more expensive guitars I tried out today......even some of the Takamines and Fenders. As regards to the original 3 I had in mind (the Vintage, the Takamine and later the Crafter)......the Samick out-classed all of them.

Very happy bunny
