I\' thinking of getting some new beach gear for next seaon. The last time I bought any proper gear was 20+ yrs ago,so here goes.I\'ve got my eye on an Abu Suveran SX and a 6500 c3 ct reel.I don\'t do much rock or kelp fishing, just pier and cleanish beach, are these any good or not enough,or too much. All advice looked at.Thanks  :casstet: :yltype: :red:

Tat,

I\'ve got one and really like it. <cough>Sea Angler<cough, cough> did a review of them last year. The rod has a stiffish action and is good for OTG or pendulum casting. The adjustable reel seat is excellent and the rod comes complete with a reducer section. I use a Penn 525 Mag with mine.

Don\'t know much about the rod but I would suggest that if you\'re fishing piers as well as beaches a better compromise would be a Penn 525 or SLOSH 20 which will be stronger for lifting fish on piers but will do the beach work just as well.

Patrick,as you have one of these rods, could you tell me what the bite detection is like,ie if you\'re scratching in a summer match.

Tat, I\'ve just recieved my new rod for clean to mixed ground fishing. It\'s a Daiwa X TDXS 129PM. Although I\'ve not used it yet (will be on Sunday though) it will show bites really well. The tip is very sensitive and the mid to butt section is very stiff. Daiwa reckon it will show small flattie bites at 150 yards and is capable with the right technique of hitting over 280 yards (don\'t think I\'ll ever be seeing anywhere near that though)!

RRP is £300 but most places do it for £240. Sportsmail http://www.sportsmail.ltd.uk/acatalog/Sportsmail_Daiwa_Beachcasters_3.html do it for £210 but they messed me around with my online order so I cancelled and ordered it from Summerlands. It\'s worth a look. :D
