New reel i think

Well after complaints from the crew this year about the noises from my war beaten reel and the fact the gulls trying to mate with it as it sounds like a birds mating call i have decided to look at a new boat reel.

Looks like it will be a new tld 15 or 20 or maybe a penn 330 loaded with 30-40lb fireline braid.

Mind the two penn reels i have have never been looked after at all and after about 6 years of being used and beaten to hell they still do the job no bother.

Anyone found any problems with the tld 15-20's? not heard of anything so far.

Richie i have a few tld 20's and looked after they will last a lifetime

never had a problem at all

top piece of kit for the money

check your pm's as well

If i'm lucky sante might fetch me a charter special 2000 or Tld 15.

Can't decide weather to do without the levelwind and go for the tld 15 or keep it and get a charter special.

My old man (lol) recently got a tld 15 and it seems a canny bit of kit.

Had my mighty abu 7000 with levelwind a fair few years now tho, so it's got a lot to live up to.

Must admit the shimano tld looks in a different class to my abu, for boat fishing at least.

the charter special comes with a level wind, thats a big plus for me. I am looking for a new reel after me okuma 30 fell to bits after one trip. one thing it did have which was canny was the mag brakes which slowed the drop down a bit which i felt stopped me worrying about overruns when fishing braid. i tend to switch off at times and just let it go down full pelt. does the lever drag peform the same function of slowing down the drop ?

The Charter Specials have a braking system as well thats why they can be used for uptiding as well

i dont think you can go wrong with a Shimano Lever Drag, or a Penn Boat reel. they all seem quality kit.
