New rod advice

As Christmas is fast approaching in thinking about asking for a new rodany ideas lads and lasses:question:
I currently use a Ron Thompson axcellerator but want something that will help me cast a bit further as they are quite stiff.
Also looking for a new reel to go with it. Got 2 slosh 30's. Can you recommend anything that will cope with rock fishing but cast a bit further:question:

Terry Woods makes good rods which come highly recommended by the lads that have used them. Perfectly suited to fishing round here. I've got a rod made by Andy Rutherford from Roker which I love. I'd suggest checking them out. Summat a bit different. If you're not convinced then there's stacks of other kit out there.

Zziplex LT Bullet or XTR 50/50

These rods will cope no probs with rough ground and are very capable casting rods.

To be honest though a RT Axe is a reasonable casting rod if you have decent technique.

As for reels try a slosh 20 or 525 mag. Both cast well and cope with heavy ground no problem just dont go much heavier than 25lb line or they will be empty with a reasonable chuck.

As Charlie says,the Reelsport rods are very very nice,I have a Blue Thunder and it is proabaly the best I have ever used.Its meant to be a rough ground rod but I use mine for clean beach work and it performs faultlessly.Heres a link-http://www.reelsport.co.uk/page13.html

what about 3 piece rods? are these any good? does the second joint have an impact on performance?

No point - IMO the more joints in a rod can only adversely affect it's action.

Gregg get yourself to AMH angling Annfield Plain he has some cracking beachasters/rods at really good value.
Shimano etc. Less than a hundred quid.
Some other makes 50 quid.

Spot on CHUKKA, the RT Axe is a more than capable rod for putting out a big cast but you need a decent casting technique to do it.
Don't go parting with your cash thinking a different rod is going to be the answer to an instant increase in distance, it probably won't be. Learn an effective casting technique that will allow you to get the best out the gear you've already got, then decide if a change of rod will benefit you.
Personally I wouldn't class the Slosh 30's as a casting reel but it should be capable of handling a decent cast. A 525 is a very good reel although it can be a bit of a wild one so gentle with it at first till you get used to it.

Cheers for all the info lads. My casting has improved loads over the last few days with a bit of guidance. I still have the brakes on my reel so i'll get them off soon and see what i can do. As for the rod i've been thinking it over and i'll probs just stick with the one i've got at the moment, get some cash for christmas and keep it in the bank till i change my mind.
