Hi guys, I usually only fish from the beach but headn out on a boat for the first time in few weeks and am a bit unsure of what gear I need such as pirks, shads, weights, sidewinders, hooks lol just about everything any advice would be great cheers
Brian

Oh and am lookn for a rod n reel too

pick some traces up (day light, hockeyes, feathers etc) anything with a bit bright colour and sparkle and shine to them! a couple of packets of shads varying in size and colour as you never know whats going to work on the day! try to geta small spool of non memory mono about 30lb for your flowing traces! you can go on for ever adding bits and pieces but it all depends on how much your wanting to spend!

hope this is of some help

chris

Keep it cheap keep it simple, i would go for the 3 hook hokkie rigs white or orange as your baited rigs, make a few flowing traces up (3 way swivel 2ft of 30-50lb mono big hook) shads blue storm my fav, and a couple of pirks.

You can but loads of gear but if your only going the odd time a few of the above will do, also dont forget a couple of packs of mackerel daylights to get your bait. 8-10oz leads should do you..i would take at least 12-15 sets as tackle loses could be high or low depending on so mnay factors.

The 12-20lb or 20-30lb rating on a boat rod does that mean the max lb line you can use or what

usually more indicative of the type of action you can expect (but yes in theory it relates to line weight)

20-30lb rod is a good allrounder for these waters - the 12-20 will be more fun though ;)

what you'll find is that if you get into it you'll end up buying more than one rod to suit the type of fishing you want to do - very much like shore fishing

If it's your first trip I'd try and borrow a rod & reel (preferably with braid - you'll enjoy the fishing more) you might spend money then decide it's not for you.

If you're out all day I'd take at least a dozen sinkers and some pirks, weight dependant on the rod & depth of water you'll be fishing. For the lighter rods we only use 10 or 12 oz sinkers & pirks.

Cheers for the info lads.
I know there's lads on NESA who make the 5 and 6oz sinkers for the beach n pier but is there any guys who do the 10s n 12oz sinkers

well lads i bit the bullet and bought a sonik SK4 20/30lb and a penn 320gt2 reel the braid is ultima power braid and loads of hokais, muppets and stuff.

lets hope i do enjoy the day out - or you'll see it in the for sale section next week

Good luck, and add some sea sickness tablet to the list to help ensure you do enjoy the day out.

A few shads (BLUE) & a pack of daylights, get some macky on the daylights, cut it up, stick a shad on and slap a small piece of macky on
