Now Then Folks
I\'m a newbie on here so thought I\'d say hello.
I usually fish between Whitby and Hartlepool but I\'m out with my mate from Newcastle tomorrow at Craster and would appreciate any advice.
Is the harbour worth fishing from or am I better off in the gullies?
And is the climb at Dunstanborough as scary as people make out?

Cheers

Bucko

Welcome mate ,you\'ll get the advice you want on here ,some big fish been taken from the piers I was told last week ,anyway I\'ll let the lads who fish there regularly tell you the better shots.

afternoon bucko, dunst castle isnt really a scary climb its just a hell of a walk with all your gear. your probably best of parkng at craster vilage and fishing the rockends on the way 2 the castle, its a long stretch and plenty 2 choose from. it has been very hit and miss really along this stretch but you jst never no and if theres nowt doing your nearly at the castle anyway so give it a try. best of luck.

bucko, not really mate. your best off having a wander on the rocks. theres not much about at the mo, couple of casts if nowt move 100yrds or so, this way your giving yourself a better chance of locating a fish.

welcome aboard mate
with the tides been big this week you\'ll see marks that never thought existed last night ther were several rods fishied the harbour wall S/side then moved off to school hole south of the harbour not a sniff one rod had a suspected coaly bite and that was it baits ranged from crab, mussell, rag, lug commons and fresh blacks and yellow tail, razorand whiteworm the only they didn,t have was as the saying goes is the kitchen sink my advice would be get into the heavy kelp big balls of crab and mussell and take a flask of oxo and remember what you see as at will be a long time before you see it again the very best of luck bucko and tight lines.

i fish craster quite a lot , and you do need plenty of weights , i got my best cod of 7 1/2 lb from the south pier , and the walk to the castle is a canny walk , but coming back is best , because of tackle loss ...

Some good advice on the board there for you Bucko.

Craster area is very snaggy but can fish very well, be sure to use rotten bottoms. If you park at Craster you can fish a number of gulleys that are clearly visible around low water. Dunstanburgh castle is also worth a shot, but is a good walk (again best approached from Craster).

Good luck.

If fishing the ebb, go down onto the rocks in front of the south pier, cast towards the north island. as the tide ebbs move onto the south island but be careful crossing, only attempt it when the rocks are showing. It is best to try and cross this in daylight if you haven\'t done it before. On the island head to the north west corner, and again either cast along the skeer out to sea or aim for the north island.

If you drive through craster and park up next to the playing field and walk. Otherwise fish into the bay between the shoreline and the south island. Follow the route of the sewer pipe along the rocks. If you fancy a change of venue take the footpath south along the shoreline through some gates and head for the point (I think the mark is called the Hole of the Dyke) it is the headland you see from the playing field. Again cast either straight out or to the southerly tip of the south island.

Be careful on all these marks if there is any swell! ! !

And expect to loose a fair amount of bottom ends.

Thanks for all the advice and welcome chaps!
We fished from 11am until 7pm yesterday, covering the gullies and rocks (found a nice clean patch inbetween the rocks). It was a day of mixed fortunes really- one lad had 3 rockling, another had what we believe was a sea scorpion and a micro-coley and I got four coleys to 1.5lb.
Great scenery and varied fishing, sure beats a day at work.
And I only lost 3 rigs!
