Venue: Newton, North, Northumberland. Rough ground rock fishing.

Weather: No wind, temperature -2, a moderate East to South East swell, 6-8ft.

Target species: Cod

Bait: Whole calamari squid, lugworm, ragworm and mackeral.

Tactics: 60lb, pulley rigs incorporating a rotten bottom weak link, 2/0 and 6/0 O' Shaugnessy hook, pennel style.

Fishing time: 7.45pm to 12.25am....Low tide, aprox 10.00pm.

Result: A perfect night for Cod fishing, a decent session with six fish caught in total, three for me and three for my pal Gary. The biggest fish was a little over 4lb, caught by myself although Gary did lose what seemed like a good fish soon after connecting with it. We were fishing very big baits, hoping for that fish of a lifetime.
There seemed to be good numbers of fish about from this rocky skeer with plenty of bites for both of us, our huge baits seemed to be a bit of a mouthfull for the smaller Codling however, resulting in a few missed bites.

Here's a couple we did manage to hook.....................
