With my local tackle shop so run down I'm surprised it is still open, I phoned one 10 miles away yesterday, ordered bait and told him I'd pick it up today. Took 2 buses to get there for 1130am and it was closed!? Asked at the shop next door and was told he was away fishing a match!! Thanks mate!! 2 hours wasted and no bait for tomorrow!

Is this a sign of a bad day? I can picture it now with the rest of the guys on the boat catching with bait and me fishless on shads!! :(

It's worth getting some frozen blacks from some of the bait diggers on wsf, nicely packaged and still frozen upon delivery.
That was you've always some in your freezer, which is ideal for a last mi ute trip.

I have an aversion to physical exertions and no fork/spade! Can't believe the shop was shut today, if he had told me yesterday when I phoned I could have gone then!! Nothing in Eyemouth either! I will phone my mate and see if he has a fork, not convinced there are any worms left around here, but will give it a go.

Unless your fishing rough ground all day you dont need anythign more than shads/twin tails/ pirks and fresh amckerel for daylights flowing traces...i can count on one hand how many times i have used a bait other than mackerel and squid this year.

Dont worry you will catch :0

Is there a local supermarket with a fish counter? Some squid would be worth taking. Not sure if there's mackerel around where you are fishing but we don't bother with bait when there's fresh mackerel about.

Yup decided against digging and went to Morrisons and got some squid. No blooming daylites though as I am right out and was planning to get them today!

I'm sensing a frustrating day tomorrow! :(

a set of "daylights" are a doddle to knock up you know.

2/0 hooks are ideal

You can use anything for the "feathers" but coke/pop bottle labels etc are pretty good.

All you need to do is whip the feathers to the hooks, then string them on a trace of three or four and your away:)

good luck regardless;)

Strips of crisp packet make good daylites :)

shhhhhh keith :) :)

as has been already said mark you'll be fine with any lure daylite, hokkai, muppet or shad and Im sure the mackerel will make a showing to tip the lures off.
If you have some squid well ... your squids in then, good luck mate.

If you are fishing in the bay north of Eyemouth and the water is not too deep and the wind not pushing the boat much, try using lead head shads or twin tails without a sinker, this method works great in shallowish water. Cast the shad ahead of any drift so it is straight up and down by the time it reaches the bottom.

Cheers Norman, got a couple of hokkai things plus some gummi macks and more shads than you can shake a stick at. Here's hoping! :)
