Thought there might have been a mention of the odd mackerel in some reports by now, as in other seasons, one or two in late Aprilespecially after the mild winter.
I heard of one or two in Whitby and seen some on the fish market.
Normally they properly arrive first week in June, but last year it was July !!
Yesterday at 6 miles off, I was sure I saw a swarm on the fishfinder, but could not get any, might have been something else
Two things:
1. the water is still a bit too cold for mackerels, they love it warm and at least 12C
2. The clarity of the water is still not good

Just had a quick read thru some of our old catch reports and as you say, had them in April before.
Its funny, can't wait for them to arrive as it usually means the start of some good cod fishing, but then when they arrive in the masses were cursing them when we can't get down to the bottom for them and the boats a mess

I never curse them, I love mackie season...everything about it
-the warm weather
-the calm seas
-the free bait
-the big ling
even the mackie barbecues on the beach with kiddies and labrador!
