Hey folk , not had chance to get on here with work commitments but needing outboard serviced just wondering if anybody uses North east marine ? Guy I spoke with seemed helpful and spot on.
Cheers.

Yeah they just around corner from me, just got shock at quote tho, £195/£240 labour then service parts and anything else too :(
North Tyne marine guy seemed sound n a lot cheaper but I know cheap ain't always best
Just wondered if folk had used him

Big rip off it seems to me. As always they can charge whatever they like, because a dealer recorded service is quite often requirement for the guarantee.

240£ plus service parts is super high. I think you can comfortably service a Ferrari for that.

I`d say, if you have no guarantee on the engine try to find somebody privately.

Anything to with outboards is an absolute rip off, unfortunately that's the down side, servicing of inboards a lot cheaper and you'll possibly find more diesel/petrol mechanics to do a service.

If you try and get a quote of a marine tech who is actually approved to do a service on an inboard you would get a big shock as I enquired about the servicing on a yanmar from an approved agent as I was looking at a boat with one and the quote for an inboard was a staggering 500

Its all the same in the marine work a bloody rip off!

There are some goods books on eBay and Amazon.

Buy a few simple tools and do it yourself.

The basics are simple
Fuel filter
Plugs
Oil filter if it has one.
Gear box oil
Check fuel pipes and connection replace if needled.
Grease battery terminals check if they are tight.
Grease everything that moves.

Tricky stuff
Impella only needs doing every couple of years, some people only change if poor Tell tail.
Carb clean - but this only ever done if there are issues and would cost more on top of a service.

I'm not a gynachologist but I'll have a good look. :)

Unfortunately for some this is simply madness as I have a 7.5k engine and if I do not get the dealer to do it I invalidate my warranty, Most others will be the same and most engines now are not carb versions but direct injection so need computers with appropriate software to set them up.
