north west session

Hi guys
(haven't been on for a while due to comp going down).
just thought i'd tell you about the session i had at the weekend, and what a corker it was.
fished a mark just to the south of whitehaven, bait was locally dug yellowtail lug and blow lug along with peeler, squid and fresh sprats.hi tide was 14.20 so got down there for 11.00
fished two rods one with a pennell pulley rig and one with a two up one down flapper, using sprat, squid and peeler on the pennel hoping to catch dogfish or maybe a reasonable cod , lug tipped with squid on the flapper for anything else .
15 mins into the session got my first bite dogfish of about 2.5 lb . baited up and cast out again, another dogfish took a liking to my bait about the same size again, had a bite on my flapper rig, nice whiting of about 1.5 lb, then had a corker of a bite on the flapper rig and connected with a good fish wasn,t sure what it was at the time i struck but soon became apparent as a nice 4.5 lb cod came to the shore then came a succession of smaller codling and whitings on the flapper rig and dogfish on the pennell rig.
by the end of the session i had caught 8 reasonable fish and a few bits. in total a cracking session( can't wait to go out again but ive got more chance of winning the lottery as wife is having our second child next week by c-section so has to be general dogs body for a few weeks:D).All fish were returned alive except the cod which is now nicely sat in the freezer in two fillets.
not bad for this time of year and well worth breaking my back for the lug,

Good to have you back Chris, sounds like the fishing is picking up early in your neck of the woods mate, hope you have a good season.

Jim.
