New to the forum and new to boat owning, I have used the charter boats out of Hartlepool and whitby for many years. Bought an oldish boat and spent all winter tarting it up and spent lots of money on chart plotter, safety equipment etc. Had 6 outings out of Hartlepool heading towards Boulby way covering 30 odd miles each time, fishing over wrecks and what looked like good rough ground. Last outing was 26th of May, all we had for our efforts were 2 small whiting. Tried jigs, hokkies, shads, squid and every other method known to man, but still nothing. I have never played golf, but it is looking like a better option lol.

Welcome to the forum mate :) and the crazy world of boat owership. Its been hard going for everyone lately but things are starting to pick up now. Just carry on with what you are doing and it will come right in the end...:);)

Thanks for the welcome lads, ye i will keep plugging away, can't get back out till next weekend (weather permitting) due to work so hopefully things will have improved by then.

Just stick at it Phil, this is our first year and we love it. Even upgraded Wor boat after a couple of trips out in the old one. We've had a few canny fish caught so just a bit of patience and you will start getting a canny few. You will get some great advice from the lads off here, been a great help to us. Good luck pal.

Hi Phil, Things have been hard for the start of this season for just about everyone. The wrecks off the Tyne are only throwing the odd fish up now and again, so most people are fishing inshore to at least get a few fish in the 2-4lb bracket. A tip fishing over rough ground would be, on the small to medium tides when the drift is slow, drift fish with bait, lug, rag, muscle etc: on two hook flapper rig with 3/0 hooks so they'll bend out of a snag, but will catch most fish inshore. When the tides are stronger, or there is a wind blowing, fish at anchor, again with bait on a two hook flapper, in about 50-60ft of water, and you will catch fish. Good luck mate, and welcome to NESA.

Hi Phil, welcome aboard mate .......
The posts above say it all really, it's been the worst start for many years but I'm sure it'll come good soon and we'll start to read your catch reports ....

all the best mate

Hi phil

Speaking from experience putting a boat in the water 3 years ago I can honestly say the information I have picked up off this site has helped massively, ultimately having a boat and getting afloat means different things to different people, don't get too hung up over catching a boat load of fish every trip and enjoy! I'm sure if you have a question somebody will have an answer for you. Good luck and if you need any advice from a fellow rookie then please get in touch!

Some great advice, thanks lads, realy appreciated. I was ok about catching nothing for the first 4 trips, just glad to be out on the water in our boat, but by the 5th and 6th trip i was starting to question my ability and sanity, but don't feel to bad now knowing that every one else has found it tough this season.
Easyfish1, yes mate i am in Hartlepool, the boat is in the yacht club.

I just moved my boat from the Yacht Club up to Seaham Marina. The YC is a great place, very safe and secure, but there is a dodgy bloke there...goes by the name of Easyfish1 ( Rob ), he has a highly polished QS560 called Darlin, with half a dozen Tomato plants in the cabin....:D:D

Seriously though, have a word with Rob, cracking bloke and clued up on the ground off Hartlepool....:)

Thanks Jester, ye i'm prety sure i'v met Rob briefly the other week, canny bloke, i will quiz him next time i see him, don't remember seeing the tomato plants tho lol.
