Numpty's on Amble Pier

Sailing out of Amble at half tide today and had to keep to the channel in the south side of harbour.Most of the anglers moved their gear (we shouted to ask them) but a group of "heed the balls" refused.Result was a six ounce spider lead and three hooks flew out the water like a rocket, if it hadn't hooked a pellet rope it would have smashed through the cuddy window. The same thing happened last year to the inshore lifeboat and one of the crew was hooked up.The commissioners wanted to stop fishing on the pier but were persuaded not to. I for one, would hate to see fishing banned on the pier but the numpty's always ruin it.
 
I was fishing Warkworth pier today. Could see the boats struggling in and out, the tide was very low, looked like you could almost walk between piers. I heard some shouting but didnt see anything. Decent of you to support genuine anglers, we chose Warkworth to get away from the idiots that appear over the summer and prevent fishing being a safe enjoyable pastime.

Glad you got out safe anyway. Was meant to be out on a boat today ourselves but trip was cancelled today due to the weather. The sea was fairly flat but that wind was a bit gusty.

I'm sure genuine anglers wouldn't get wound up but the summer does bring out some idiots.Reading the shore pages, the lads on Blyth pier seem to suffer the same type. I fish the pier odd times during the winter which is why this annoys. The north pier is better in the summer but is a long walk - if you were there for high water there would have been mackerel around.Good luck with your fishing.
 
Just caught the tail end of high water and got one mackie and loads of sandeel. Have fished the pier a lot over the years and this morning for about half an hour before the water went brown it looked perfect.

I had a frightening experience one day between the Amble piers , 4 miles an hour looking up at the lads fishing , most will reel in and recast when you are passed and get a wave of thanks from me , this one just sat there , I was sure he had seen me so carried on , all the time looking for lines until I heard a lead weight banging off the hull of my boat and the whooshing noise of 60lb mono stretching round the radar arch in front of my face pinging from one place to another on the arch. Fortunately the line broke with an almighty crack and the lead dropped back in the river but I dread to think what would have happened had I been in my previous boat with no arch and the line around my throat.
I too would hate to see angling stopped on the piers , but that's the usual response of authority to the problems caused by a few............ ban everybody.
