Home PC kaputt again...

It'll load up to a certain point then re-boot itself. Unable to load in any of the "safe" modes either...

Wary of doing a re-boot in case it hangs up halfway through and causes more problems...

Any ideas anyone?

Tony,
Last time I had a similar problem it was caused by a dog hair between the cpu and the cooler.

You recently rebuilt it...but it takes time for the cpu to squeeze out the thermal stuff and end up resting against the hair... Net result the PC shuts itself down on boot for safety reasons.

May not be the case...you may not have a dog ;)

To identify a boot problem there are often lights on the motherboard that flash like morse before the os kicks in to tell you where the boot has got to . Check your manual.

If your pc beeps on boot try removing components one at a time, ie memory ( individual sticks of ) cd rom and finally the cpu. Boot it each time ( seems daft without the bits in) but you should get the beep each time...if you dont the chances are that one of the components left is faulty.

Failing that...buy a MAC :D

Cheers
Dave
