just had a discussion with a m8, we were on about big fish, a mentioned a huge cod, a believe to be over 100lb in weight netted just of blyth, a think it was the early 80's.
maybe alan Charlton or david store's or anyone could help with this

Davey - I'm sure, buried somewhere on here, someone posted a clipping with a picture of it lying in the fish-shop window in Blyth - might take some rooting around but I'm sure it's somewhere (maybe the "Yesterdays" section?).

For anybody who think Cod or anyfish for that matter, cant grow huge they can and do,but when given the oppotunity.Saw a genuine photograph(pre photoshop times) of a netted Cod in Icelandic waters a few years ago now,it was over 200lb(100kg+).
Most fish are like this, grow to uninmaginable proportions we can only dream of in the modern era.
The original Jaws movie around 1979,caused panic and the slaughter of 10s of 1000s,some claim millions quite possible,of sharks off Americas coastlines,as people believed there were 25feet long maneaters swimming off the USA beaches. Then a few in the know enlightened marine scientists calmed things down years later, saying nope they dont grow that big, they are not dangerous. Then Funnily enough later l saw,a photograph, still have it somewhere in a angling magazine,of a Great White, harpooned, off the Azores, they had it lying on a fishquay with grown men next to it,so photograph had proportion of size to judge against,it was over 27 feet long measured, around five feet high,to its back, not tip of dorsel fin,
All species of fish can grow to immense proportions, like l said, given the oppotunity, sadly they are not now, anywhere in the world, and we will never see the likes again.
