One ugly whiting

Just caught this on Horden beach ive never seen a whitey with eyes this big lol

They aren't the bonniest of fish are they? Google eyed and big gobs.

It wasn't in the best condition it was thin and full of small worms, still at least i caught something.

I got one myself on Sunday from there. It was 40cm long but also very lean.
Didn't gut it to see what it had been chewing on but I got it on sandeel.
Thought it may be thin from recent spawning but may be wrong.

I put this one back but it spat out a few lugworm it looked as though its tail had been bitten too, i also caught a few dabs using booms and tiny size 4 hooks with 6lb hook lengths its surprising what a difference scaling down your tackle makes

When iv caught thin whities they have been full of worms

In the past while fishing at Hartlepool have had whiting like that.. Also their gills had balls of worms on them (presumably living from the fishes blood supply)
