Opinions on complimentary rod for Penn 525

Been looking at buying a new beachcasting outfit for use on beaches such as blyth and cambois etc. Always used fixed spools in the past but i have been getting more and more interested to get out fishing more often so I would like to upgrade to a nice multiplier setup. Been looking at the Penn 525 mag 2 reel and heard nothing but good reviews. What rods do you guys use/recommend as a good combination for this reel, looking to spend no more than £200 on the rod. thats a tuffy..the world is ur 200 pound oyster lol...the reel is a great choice but the rod u choose must be suited to the fishing you do . maybe if u tell the forum a bit more of how n wer u fish u can get a better answer. based on your info i wud say a second hand rod say tip tornado sport in fairly new condition

My number one rod for Blyth Beach and the likes is the AFAW Tournament Match - £200 should easily get you one second hand. In fact for £200 you'd be pretty spoiled for choice; there are so many to choose from! Before the AFAW I used to use a Century Tip Tornado Supermatch, another very nice rod, and still use my Greys Platinum GSI there a lot. There are many good top end rods you could get second hand - I'd just say avoid the rough-ground-pokers and get something with a good tip.

You can get some pretty fierce tide rip on Blyth so you'll still want to be able to chuck 6 or 7oz but if the tip of your rod is too stiff it'll make holding bottom in the tide more difficult - it'll also absorb more of the pull you get bringing fish through the surf and should help lessen your chances of the fish slipping the hook.

if it was beaches, mainly, and not rough ground i would deffo go for the sonic sk4 16ft, 4-6oz. I bought one the other summer, after using a mates for an hour, and i love it, swear by it. Super light, sensitive easy to handle, distance casting made easy, but still has enough power for pulling fish up walls of piers or over mixed stuff.

Not eveyones cup of tea i know, but thats my input

Century carbon Blackbird 15 ft, casts long and you dont need to pendulum to get 140 yrds or more (appartantly) get three piece so fits in car, I caught a 4inch flattie the other day after seeing bite easily and dragged in huge amounts of sea weed no sweat!!

Thanks allot for the input lads I will look at reviews on the rods you have suggested. I like the sonik rods, and have the sk3 (fixed spool) and fin it a great rod. As for the kind of fishing I will be doin with this rod, it will be mostly beaches and not rough ground. Thanks again

if i wanted a rod for the beaches i would look at some secong hang zippys all the power in the butt great bite detections the rough groung pokers are rubbish short range bit detection but once your rite out you cann see crab nibbles

I just hope there's a lot less whiting & a lot more codlings there this winter Peter - that can't be your rod in the shop as it isn't B.T.F. ??!!
