Pain of a season

Well i am sure alot will agree that this season (as predicted back in April) has been the worst i have lived through, doubles have been down, days at sea have been either rough sea or fast drift, more days called off than fished and the numbers of fish have dropped by half, when you read private and charter boat reports saying we had a good day and had 3-5 fish each or charter landed 10-25 fish you realise how poor it really is compared to the previous two years.

Still time for it to pick up but so far i am down about 200 cod and 70 ling on this time last year with with a new rcord of called off trips due to weather.

Next year maybe :)

Hope it picks up next year, it'll be because this is my 1st proper boat season!! Sorry guys!! Lol

I prob am but i dont like fishing rough ground that much, i know you had some good days close in wrecks like, got 7 cod other day close in but not what i should be getting for this time of year, mind its nice to see the clean water at the mouth of the river now, first time this year its been within the piers :)

Mind also been spoilt with the Norway trip, still finding it hard not to be bothering to bring 20lbers into the boat, just in the process of booking up again for July next year..that cheer me up :)

Strange negative post considering the actual weather and the forecast for the next 7 days.

How's it strange, he's just stating it's been crap this year up to now compared to the last two year.
Lets hope the improved weather brings the fish on, cos it can't get much slower.

You do read the reports from some lads fishing charters saying they had 8 or so fish. But that is 8 on the whole boat not that individual angler which is poor in my book.:(

Usually those kind of posts come up when its blowing northeasterlies.

As it stands there will be (apart from a heavy tide) good conditions in the next 7 days or so.

Plus the water has eventually cleared after those ridiculous rainfalls in Mai/June.

consider that "i am down about 200 cod and 70 ling on this time last year" could be equalised in 3 days of very good fishing

as richy says its been a crap season regarding weather and fish caught, whether private or charter, yes both have had some very good days, but a jolly sight less of them than normal:exclam:
as for whats to come that is hope on all our parts:) better weather means more trips but dosent mean more fish

Ritchie,
Ii know where coming from, look on the positive side what we don't catch this year hopefully, if the foreign trawlers and massive seals don't get them, they may get hooked up next year.............
last year spoilt a lot of us, and expectations this year year have been dampened by the weather etc.
chin up

There might be a phantom 1 report on next week lets see......I bloody hope so

Paul

270 in a weekend for a charter with 10 rods a day is possible but being 270 dow n for me only not the boat is a big ask. Well today i fished and it was poor still 5.1 tide and 20mph wind made the drift almost unfishable for large spells. Light ne winds next few days, if it dont get that strong it should be ok.

I think you are missing the point Kartonkel, most private boaters on here would quit before they raped a wreck/wrecks
of fish just to reach the numbers they may be down over a season in 2-3 trips. It's the joy of heading out, catch a few fish of quality, a bit crack, then head home with a smile on your face from spending time and an enjoyable session at sea. There have been few days that that has happend this season.

Well said Arthur, it's not so much the numbers of fish that gets us down as the numbers of chances to catch them, I know Ritchy is a bit of a numbers fanatic and likes to keep records and such , but I'll bet he still would rather be out catching a couple than sitting at home watching surf on the webcams.

You got it bang on arthur, its not been the numbers really as you say its the fun of being out and bad weather, fast drift has made large chunk of the trips not as fun as they should be. Here is hoping for the weekend :-)
