Peeler crabs

Peeler crab.

Peeler crab.

I used to get them in rock pools etc, however spoke to a guy on the pier the other day who had bought some from a tackle shop in Billingham. Three or four in a small plastic bag and at a cost of £3:50. It looked like a good deal to me. The lad gave me a crab and i cut it into three pieces and used it with rag and squid.

Mick, I think you will find that they were not peeler crab mate. All of the tackle shops sell them but they are not nearly the same.

Blind Crabs!

Blind Crabs!

Hi Borisono, I remember that article and also the subsequent letters that it prompted to sea angler magazine! The idea that anyone would deliberately blind a tank full of hardbacks in an attempt to induce the peeling process provoked letters of disgust. If I remember correctly someone said that the wounding inflicted and the corresponding trauma resulted in a very high fatality rate. (Now there's a suprise, eh!).
It's amazing to think that that article was published over a quarter of a century ago. Nowadays, quite rightly, such an article would never go to press.
Equally as shocking...........50 pence for Sea Angler magazine!
I think I can remember saving my pocket money to buy it when I was just a kid and it was published once every 2 months then but I can't remember the exact year.
Ian.

Ian, Did it tell you how to tie a shock leader on back then.....or how to dig lug worm....or how to peel a crab and stick it on a hook ?
