Penn supermag extra.

Penn supermag extra.

Keegy i know all about these reels. I bought one from NE Tackle at Hartlepool for £150.(also a shop in Sunderland).
I have no doubt i could have got one off e-bay for £20 less but i,m glad i did,nt. The side plate where the magnet is developed a small hairline fracture after only about four fishing sessions. The reel was raffling all of the time when i casted.
I took the plate back to the tackle shop and it was replaced with a new part within a week.
I put the part back on and loaded up with 15 pound line and a nice leader.
The reel is now performing very well.
I have been practising casting with my new Abu Suveron rod on local fields and the distance casting is way beyond my old 7000.
I would buy local rather than cheap.
I considered part-ex for a new abu 7000 at the shop but the lads serving insisted the penn was a far superior reel.

Mick.

hi keegy like myself you been on casting scene for a while i know what to look out for on reels buying secondhand no prob, had loads of penn 525mags very nice as is the slosh 20 /abu 7000/ shimanos nothing to pick from any of them. still got that 6500 i got off you but mag conversion was,nt up to much had to modify. have you been able to get out fishing over here yet .

thanks for the reply lads, i know that there were rod and reel deals on the penn gear, (buy a rod and get a 525 mag free. ) but the reels in the deals were not the same build as the ones of the shelf, got plenty of sl30 & sl20, and all the casting reels, john, no havent been out fishing down here yet as i dont drive and it makes it more difficult to get to the fishing and the casting.

hi matey, got a few too many reels myself time for a offload i think, some real good codling fishing were you are the tyne gateshead stadium area .theres a lad not far from u goes to casting comps may be able to help but dont think he does thro winter months.the penn reels i like the 525gs for fishing modify the holder for brake blocks and use one small abu fibre block for fishing no prob. all these new penn 525s are just a gimmick to me not neccesary, that should get a few replies back lol

hi jim ,i think the mag reels cast a bit further but for fishing the non mag in my opion is more practicle

525's

525's

Hi All

well i have 2 525 mags and one 525 gs and find both of them a treat to use but the mags are a bit lively but they have lots of control with the magnets so if its nice and calm or blowing a storm then settins are easily adjusted
