I've come across these available on Ebay for £59.00 so I'm considering it as a back up reel, I understand Penn moved their operations to China in 2003 and after speaking to the Penn repair centre in the UK I was advised that their new reels are not as well made as their earlier models which were made in the States, so has anyone out there used this reel and is it worth buying? bought a couple from glasgow angling i think they were "20"s they had them on a half price deal:exclam: pretty crap to put it mildly had i paid full price there would have been summat to say, like money back please:)

Cheers for the heads up - I'll give it a miss - I did try to source a price locally but to be honest it's a discontinued model so there doesn't appear to be many around. I'm just looking for a back up reel for when on the boat, would the Abu Seven (cheaper option) or Abu 7000i be any good?

The abu 7000 series are cracking good reels , you should be able to pick a new one up for around the £75 mark if you keep shopping around , I've got a couple and they get serious abuse and still keep going , they are perfect for the boat fishing we do :)

Cheers Ray, I'm just going to order one from Gerry's as they are £79.99 and I've also got my eye on the Penn 320LD with leverdrag and levelwind which appears to be the ultimate all rounder, retailing at around £135.00 but I can pick one up in the States for around 90 notes - I've only been out on the boat a few times so I'll soon find out if it's money well spent.......

I have got a 320 LD and have found it to be great reel, maybe a touch on the small side for wrecking but great in every other respect. The only problem I have had with mine was the level wind worm getting worn out.
A great reel,

Graham.
