penn fathom or 515 mag 2

think im going to get one of the above for crimbo not sure with one whats your oppinions about them

there like chalk and cheese mate 515 no good for rough ground as you can only get 18lb max line penn fathoms are poorly bit in my eyes very weak components
 
Get yourself an original penn 525, everything about them is better than this new sh*ite theyre selling imo
 
Phil have you ever had a Fathom apart ,they seem well built to me,cast really well ,especially if you put a mag unit in.Had the new 515 and 525 and got shot,wouldn`t have 3 Fathoms if they were poor ,thats for definate m8.Would rather use them than my Saltists.
 
Why not just get a new 525 for the same price as a 515 as for people saying buy one of the originals its pointless as they don't make them any more and as its for Christmas I imagine you want a new reel
 
Penn were taken over by Shakespeare in 2007 all are made in china and far east now so is the Daiwa but there quality control seems better

yea u right there but Shakespeare spoil stuff to get it in a price bracket, they have had cracking rod blanks in the past then put crap rings on to bring them in £5 cheaper to meet a price bracket and they used the same factorys i had Daiwa fly rods delivered with Shakespeare logo on the reel seat I was a main dealer for both kept a couple of those rods for ages to show Daiwa fans that were slagging shakespeare gear lol
 
got to agree with phil the phathoms are a bit hitty missy heard just today thats a few handles have came off and the whole reel cage came off the reel foot but some people might have no bother just like no to cars are the same but agree with brian get a avet pure quality
 
try asking santa for a well looked after second hand penn 525 mag (usa) but to be honest I have both and prefer the mag 2 it cast further and is smoother, in fact Ive twice cast all my line off the spool much to my ambarrassment, lost the lot and that was otg casting, penn mag 2 gets my thumbs up
