Any petrol heads/car dealers with a view on the above car?

Seen a peach condition 56 plate 206 Estate with very low mileage

Been for a test drive and gearbox seems clunky and loose in comparison to our knackered Corsa (Corsa is Hydraulic whereas 206 is linkage)

But even taking into account the different style of gearbox I still have reservations...

If anyone has an opinion I'd appreciate it ;)

Our lass has the 307 td mate and its the worst car she has had its cost a fortune the turbo went at 40k mile and its always getting recall notices for abs also the parts are pricey

dont do it

dont do it

worr lass had 206 hdi estate sender unit on fuel pump went replaced it went again ,gearbox noisey the tracking needed doing all the time and new track rods in aswell great for getting fishing gear in thats about it got a nissan micra now cracking little moter

Daughters got a 206 hdi mate, fair enough it's y reg but not megga miles, like a bag of hammers. I would get a focus mate or better still a mondeo. I just flogged my mondeo after a while advertising, full zetec spec, silky smooth, 2004, 70k, immaculate condition and could only get 1500 for it. that's all they go for and the guy got one hell of a motor. Thing I didn't realise is motors don't rust these days but they still get old, bit like fisherman like:D

If its a 1.6 HDi keep away! If its the 2.0 HDi then your on to a winner if its got FSH with it aswell? Low miles as in very low miles, if thats the case who is the owner and does he/she only do short trips in it? All drive belts should be changed by now. Check for blue/white smoke on cold start up and when warm also when you put your foot down? Gearboxes are 5hit and the linkages play up, could be gearbox oil if its never been done and only done town driving most its life, will have increased wear and tear on the box.

Most Petrol engines are fine, same problems with gearboxes etc. If you plan on doing long commutes in the estate either go for the 1.6/2.0 Petrol or 2.0 HDi.

Check all electrics work as they should like you should with every French car LOL. Good luck.

Cheers for the input guys...the whole gearbox clunky thing, irrespective of whether its normalIhas gone against it...have moved my sights to Ford diesels :D

Can't go wrong with ford diesels mate, got a couple of focus diesels in the pool at work and there fine and have canny go about them, personally though I'd go for a petrol job but then again I don't do that many miles. If i had to use the motorways for a living and was up and down them like wh*res draws then it would be the diesel:D

Does not matter which car you look at ,they will always have a problem somewhere, rover head gaskets, ford diesel fuel pumps, peugot 206 back axles could go on and on,
I have bought and sold many cars :D
have got a citroen c5 2.0 diesel now big comf car plenty of room ,big boot for fishing ,good mph,and when i bought it the guy had spent £3500 maintance :o taxed and moted it for a year, just before he died. payed £800 for it ran it for about 6 month now no problems,
so there are some good cars out there and some rubbish cars as well ,just do as much home work as you can,and dont rush into it
just got a 1.4 diesel astra for my mate 56 plate £3000 and he loves it great milage
also got a 58 astra diesel 1.9 for his daughter £4800 a nice car
the best cars to buy are ones you can run for a year trouble free sell them and make a profit :D:D

nowt like an opinions thread on cars to divide the masses!

assume all cars are gonna cost you unexpected money and you'll not be disappointed

personally I'd sooner have root canal work than own another ford. had several peugeots 406's and 306's all have done what they said on the tine and IMHO I think pug's have some of the best deisel engines - 370,000 miles on the first 406 we had brakes pads, tyres, an exhaust, a clutch (at 295,000) and oil changes was all it cost me. did over 200k in second hand 306 before selling it on and got another 306 recently as a mile muncher - 2.0Hdi, getting 50plus to the gallon, V reg, 500 quid with 12months mot and 6months tax. will run it into the ground over the next 2 or 3 years, spend nowt on it and still get 200 quid or more from the scrap man at then end
