The Great Rod Race began tonight....with myself, Greggthe1 and Philitofish trooping off to Beadnell Point in search of the our target species - Wrasse and Pollock.
Stopped at this sign on the way...
seen it loads of times - but I still laugh every time I see it!!
A glorious summer evening and the mark looked like an excellent spot with all the makings of a promising nights fishing.
Tactics - I went onto Float as did Phil with Gregg trying spinning. Bait for me was Rag and I think Phil was using rag/crab...
My float was the first to go under and I must admit I thought my luck was in until I pulled out the smallest coalie ever....not tonights target species so it did not count in any way whatsoever
unhooked the hapless fecker and lobbed it back, minutes later my float goes under again - it felt like a good 'un this time...
B*****ds!! New species for me I suppose if I'm honest - never caught a velvet swimming crab before!!
By this point we were all on floats and all pretty much fishing the same bait...not much doing for another half hour or so until Phil shouts up and we look across to see his rod bent over...
Phils first ever Wrasse - and the first species (for him anyway) to be ticked off...Nice One Phil (lucky f****r
)
We fished pretty much until about 2215, there was a young lad next to us who caught a Wrasse on his first drop and there was a bloke at the end lobbing daylites out for macky (I think he caught one all night
)
My float did dissappear under again only for me to catch...
A sodding Granny Fish - again not on this months target list!!
Gregg unfortunately blanked on this occasion, but Phil did catch another...
Another small coalie!!
A quiet night but a good night - good meeting Phil for the first time and Gregg for the second...nice one lads - 'til the next time!!
Here's another pic to show how nice an evening it was...
Cheers...Tony
